Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept credit cards?
We are currently in the process of configuring our web site for credit card use by our customers.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  Until we are credit card ready, we will do our utmost to make your purchase as comfortable as possible, including e-mailing photos of the exact piece you are purchasing, shipping COD, or when possible delivering the piece(s) ourselves.  We value your business, and recognize the importance of repeat customers and word-of-mouth advertising!

Do you make "custom" furniture?
Yes.  We enjoy and encourage one-on-one working relationships with our customers.  Because we are not a factory or assembly line, nor do we desire to be, we prefer designing furniture to fit a specific theme and space.  When you purchase a living room set from us, each piece will be made with your living room in mind.  If the sofa needs to measure 7'9" in length, then that is what we will make for you.

Do you ship your furniture?
Yes.  Shipping charges are extra, and we will ship anywhere, via the carrier of your choice.  We will insure the items, and any damage resulting from mishandling while shipping will be addressed with the shipper.  We will do our utmost to ship via the least expensive method, as our products can be quite heavy.

We will also deliver within a 250 mile radius of Beaver, Utah, based on a prior agreed upon delivery fee with our customers.

Are your beds and other furniture bolted together?
At Otter Creek Log Furniture, we use only the strongest of joinery in construction of our furniture and railings - mortise and tenon joinery.   We avoid the use of through-going bolts and plugs, as seen in so many of our competitor's designs because we feel it detracts from the appearance and strength.  The oldest, simplest, and strongest joint is a tight-fitting tenon glued using the excellent products available on the market today.

What types of finish do you apply to your furniture and railings?
We have found that tung oil offers a very pleasing appearance and protection for most of our furniture, and a minimum of three applications is included in the listed prices.  You can also choose from semi-gloss marine varnish, which offer the greatest protection combined with ease of cleaning.  As with any oil-based product, it will yellow the wood, however.  To some, this honey-brown appearance is very pleasing to the eye, and most of our furniture is now being finished this way.  In the case of tables for outdoor or dining (heavy) use, we strongly recommend marine varnish for the additional protection it affords.  We also recommend water-based varnishes for those who wish to see the wood as nature presents it.  This type of finish will not yellow the wood, and is as close to natural in appearance as we've seen.

We will finish any of our furnishings using any suitable method desired by our customers, such as beeswax.  Or, we can ship the pieces unfinished, at a reduced price.

Our railings are all shipped unfinished, as the choice of finish should usually match the home.  As with any log home, we recommend darker penetrating stains/protectants, as they contain more pigment, and offer greater protection from sunlight and weather.

How do I order railings?
Very Carefully!   Unlike others, our railings are sized very accurately, which translates into a much more uniform, professional appearance.  We do not recommend ordering until your lofts and decks/porches are framed.  When building, we recommend that double girders, or a minimum 4 X 10 beam be used wherever railing posts will be mounted.  When you are ready, we will gladly walk you through the process!

If log supports will be used for decks, or porch covers, we recommend a minimum of 10" diameter so that mortise holes to accepts the rails can be drilled at least 1 1/2" inches into the supports without weakening them.  Each job is different from the previous, and we will work with you to achieve the most accurate and precise measurements before we begin construction of your railings.  We are not responsible for home owners' inaccurate measurements!
